Overview
The PGDE programme takes one academic year divided into two semesters of fifteen (15) weeks each. it is intended for graduates who would like to join the teaching profession but have not received the necessary training in education to be effective teachers. The programme equips graduates with the necessary knowledge, skills and techniques needed to provide leadership and stewardship in the education sector and to excel in whatever educational activities they choose to do.
The broad objective of the PGDE programme is to equip graduates who wish to pursue a career in education with the knowledge, skills, and techniques in teacher education and their application to teaching.
The programme is offered through distance learning mode of study that comprises online learning and limited face-to-face tuition. Guidance and counselling services are provided using multi-media learner support services.
Admission Requirements
The minimum admission requirements to this programme are:
- A degree of Bachelor of Arts (B.A) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) of Second Class Honors, Lower Division of the University of Nairobi or equivalent qualification from any other university recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate
- A holder of the degree of Bachelor of Arts (B.A) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Pass of the University of Nairobi or equivalent qualifications from any other university recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate and two years working experience.
- The applicant must have at least two teaching subjects done at undergraduate level from a University recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate.
