AWARD OF CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION–INTERNATIONAL COURSE, UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI AND UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO, CANADA

The Department of Educational and Distance Studies, University of Nairobi held an award ceremony on Thursday 8th June 2023 for 20 students who successfully completed a one semester course titled CTL1221H: Educating For Humanitarian Goals locally and globally: How is Science Education Helping?  That was offered in collaboration with the University of Toronto in Canada. A total of 43 postgraduate students pursuing postgraduate diploma, masters and PhD programmes from across the various departments in the Faculty of Education were selected for the course. Present during the award ceremony were the Dean of Faculty Prof Jeremiah Kalai, Associate Dean Dr. Anne Nderitu, Department of Educational and Distance Studies Chairman Dr. Anne Assey, Department of Educational Management, Policy and Curriculum Studies Chairman Dr Susan Chepkong’a, Prof Ibrahim Khatete, Dr Simon Munayi, Mr. Christopher Mutunga the Senior Assistant Registrar Department of Educational and Distance Studies and support staff from the department. In his remarks during the ceremony, the Dean Prof Kalai emphasized the importance of adopting a global outlook to education in an interconnected and globalized world. He further noted the importance of networks and networking and their role in availing valuable opportunities. On her part the Associate Dean Dr. Anne Nderitu thanked The Chairman DEDS for enabling such partnerships and collaborations. Dr. Anne Assey the Chairman Department of Educational and Distance Studies noted in her remarks that OISE/the University of Toronto had waived $4,500 (USD) per student which is equivalent to Kshs. 618,772.57 per student amounting to Ksh.26, 607,196.00. She further noted that such opportunities should be shared across the different departments in the faculty and that the graduating cohort did exceptionally well in the course and could therefore compete with the best from other parts of the world. The balance of 23 students who were yet to graduate  Dr. Assey added would continue with the course once the lapsed  MoU between University of  Toronto and the University of Nairobi is renewed by both institutions.
