The University of Nairobi celebrated the 55th graduation ceremony on 2nd September 2016. During this occasion; the University conferred and awarded about 4,448 graduands with PhDs, Degrees, Post Graduate Diplomas and ordinary Diplomas. 
The School of Continuing and Distance Education produced 1,814 graduands- 1062 males and 752 females. 
Of the 1,814 granduands; 
3 graduated with Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD); of which 1 was PhD. in Distance Education and 2 PhD. in Project Planning and Management.
233 with Master Degrees; 5 of which were Master in Distance Education and 228 Master in Project Planning and Management.
11 Postgraduate Diplomas were awarded; of which 1 PGD. in Adult Education and Community Development, 5 PGD. in Education, 2 PGD. in Human Resource Management and 3 PGD. in Project Planning and Management.
681 Bachelor Degree were Awarded; where by 518 graduated with Bachelor of Education (Arts), 4 Bachelor of Education (Science) and 159 Bachelor of Project Planning and Management.
886 ordinary Diplomas were awarded:
Dip. in Adult Education and Community Development:    35
Dip. in Business Management:                                         278
Dip. in Guidance and Counselling:                                      4
Dip. in Human Resource Management:                             150
Dip. in Project Planning and Management:                         43
Dip. in Public Relations:                                                     80

The 55th graduation congregation was officiated by the Chancellor D. Vijoo Rattansi. Short speeches were presented by the Chairman of council Dr. Idle Farah and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi.
